Athletes: Getting the Most from Chiropractic

How Chiropractic Treatment Make Better Athletes

An athlete’s performance is affected by a combination of strength, flexibility, speed and coordination. For optimal performance, the athlete’s musculoskeletal condition must be in sync to deliver this combination efficiently. His spine, joints, musculature, ligaments and tendons will bear the brunt of physical forces involved in his sport. Certainly, he is exposed to a variety of trauma and injuries.

When there is something amiss in spinal movement and/or alignment, the resulting altered positions can create focal areas of irritation in the nervous system, which leads to the interference with the functions of all other systems. As a result, athletic performance suffers. When athletes get chiropractic adjustments regularly, they will often attribute their success to regular chiropractic care. In other words, chiropractic reverts the beating the body takes in the name of sports.

Routine adjustments result in improved range of motion, better flexibility, and increased blood circulation. The adjustments will reduce the irritation of the spinal nerve roots, improve healing time, and hence, improving performance. Chiropractic adjustments can heal a variety of athlete ailments and their symptoms, such as headaches, shoulder pain and ankle sprains and injuries, plus reducing the risk for injuries. Athletes who go for adjustment after competition speeds the recuperative process after the stress of their event.

Athletes favor the non invasive and drug free treatment aspect of chiropractic adjustments making it a safer alternative course of therapy. No injection, blood transfusions, no hospital stay is required to deter athletes’ time in training, practice or real-time competition. Medication-free, chiropractic therapy ensures
no presence of drug side-effects or adverse reactions that can affect performance or even daily routine. Chiropractic adjustments are indeed a preventative and performance enhancing care.

Bellevue Chiropractic: Straighten Up for Good Posture

Correction and Commitment

Is your head too far forward, your shoulders slumped, or your pelvis somewhat tilted? Sounds like a tired picture, but even tiredness shouldn’t describe you early in the morning at work in the office. Standing or sitting, this picture of you speaks of bad posture. And bad posture can do you a lot of harm. It can contribute to some major health issues like disk herniation, pinched nerves, tingling sensation, arthritic joints, and morphological changes in tissue- like some muscles getting shorter and tighter. Pain will soon bother you and that’s when you’ll seek medical attention.

Bad posture wears down the body and the process can be quite fast. Your body will adjust and fight the discomfort to compensate for the imbalances, trying to stay upright as possible. Top athletes, you see, are different from ordinary folks where they use only half our energy to stay upright and the rest of their energy to do other things. They are trained so, to be able to always be in top form.

A therapist, or a chiropractor for that matter, will instruct you to always pull back your shoulders, keep your head straight and aligned with your spine, pull air in towards the trunk, and squeeze your buttocks to create pelvic stability as you keep with the lower spine’s natural curvature. Incorporate these improvements into your exercise routine and beware to not go back to old habits or there will not be much progress. Know that your brain has been used to the old posture and perceives it as normal. You have to train yourself to be conscious of it.

It is hard to keep thinking about your posture when you are working, but that’s the problem with us. We don’t multi-task. We serial-task. It will take effort really, enormous at the start, but we can persist if committed. If you are like many working at the table, practise your good posture. Sit farther back into your chair. Keep your wrists straight and fingers floating over the keyboard. The keyboard is placed so that your elbows can draw back toward the side of your ribs. The monitor is at a height that you can gaze at it straight while your neck is straight as well.

Most people have a poor perception of their own posture and that is why they may need expert help.

Is Your Child Always Constipated?

Chiropractic Care for Childhood Constipation

Constipation is a relatively common issue among children that sometimes does not resolve even with visits to the gastroenterologist. It is an infrequent or difficult elimination of feces, very stressful, uncomfortable, painful, and children may not even want to attempt to eliminate. Parents can turn desperate; sometimes the situation can stretch to a few days. Not many know that a chiropractic can help the situation. And how does it?

The child’s developing spine can be misaligned and not moving through the full range of motion. With restricted movements, exiting nerves through the vertebra will suffer a decrease in function. The nervous system is not optimally functioning. At the lower back, meaning the lower thoracic or upper lumbar zones, the nerves supplying the intestines are impeded and stimulus is decreased. Hence, one cannot expect normal peristaltic movement of the gut that enables stools to pass easily. It is logical then that to fix the restriction will enable the child to return to normal bowel movements.

While it is true that constipation can result from a variety of reasons, some are diet, stress, bad habits, and the like, chiropractic practitioners say that difficulty passing feces is basically a nervous system issue. If the causative factor is nerve restriction at the spine, then some chiropractic manipulation can help resolve the issue.
